So, you want to Kickstart Something? Project Creator Rules of Thumb:

Being the creator of The Oblique Bottle Holder, a moderately successful Kickstarter project, I now feel the need to give something back.  So, for those of you who are kickstarting a project, here are my thoughts based on my own project and also watching many successful and unsuccessful Kickstarter projects.  Most of these are skewed towards my Product based project, but they are applicable across many project areas.

1.  Ask yourself, “Self, am I really pumped about this project?”

If you are not really excited about the project, this could be disastrous to your project, your health, and of course, your awesome backers who are really excited about the project.  There will be many ups and downs with every project (yes, even the 2 week projects) and if you can’t ride out the lows easily because of your passion for the project, then you may want to reconsider why you are doing Kickstarter in the first place.

Stay tuned for a new rule of thumb every few days!
